Peter Cullen was the original voice actor for Optimus Prime in the 1980's TV series and movie (the incarnation of Transformers that fans call "Generation 1"). Even though the new movie is not actually based on G1 (more like "loosely inspired" by it), many fans had been clamoring for Peter Cullen to be the voice of Optimus in the new live-action/CGI movie.
If you've seen the NBC reality show "Treasure Hunters," Peter Cullen is the guy who provides the opening narration for the show.

I knew instantly it was him. It's very distinct.
